
Secondary 1 – Visual Arts: Batik Pattern (East Indonesia)
Secondary 1 students continued the material about “Batik Papua”. This time, they were asked to sketch Batik Papua motives they have chosen into two medias: chopping board or fabric. They were given freedom to choose one of the medias to express their creation. After they have finished the sketch, they continued to colour it with acrylic paint. For the finishing parts, they had to add the details of the motives into the sketch. They needed to be careful with their design and colouring so it can brings out the characteristics of the motives.
In the process, the students were stimulated to be aware of the painting media that they choose. Every media has its own challenges so students had to do it properly, both sketching and colouring. By paying attention to that, students are trained to consider their decision and what should they do best. The final product will be vary from each student. It also becomes one of their good experiences to make creation in different media. Students are able to learn different culture and appreciate the value that come within.
