Secondary 1 – Physics: Curiosity with Static Electricity Experiments
Secondary 1 students brought physics to life through engaging, hands-on experiments on static electricity. Working in groups, they explored how electrons move by rubbing balloons and plastic rulers against hair or fabric, then testing their effects on small paper pieces, other balloons, and even a stream of running water.
From paper pieces jumping toward charged objects to water bending unexpectedly, students observed striking evidence of electrostatic forces in action. These simple experiments sparked curiosity and deepened their understanding of how invisible charges can create real, observable effects.
The activity concluded with each group producing a Science Report, where they analyzed their findings and connected their observations to scientific concepts.
This dynamic session not only strengthened students’ understanding of physics but also encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.
