Secondary 1 – Maths: Volume and Total Surface Area
In Maths, S1 students are allowed to act as architects, using their knowledge of the volume and total area of three-dimensional shapes. In this activity, they design a space that they imagine and calculate its dimensions and total surface area.
Once they have calculated its dimensions and total surface area, they try to work out the number of materials needed to build it. This activity not only allows teachers to assess students’ understanding of mathematical concepts in a practical setting but also allows students to reflect on their learning and see the real-world application of these mathematical principles. ***
