Secondary 1 – Learning Project: My Guidebook
Secondary 1 students had their first learning project in Secondary level. In their first learning project, they were engaged on a project which was a collaboration of four subjects: Social Studies, Physics, English, and Project-Based Learning (PBL). This project integrated various learning targets to create a meaningful educational experience.
The lessons covered in this project includes ‘Mengenal Lingkungan Sekitar’ (Social Studies), focusing on understanding the environment around them for their lives; Measurement (Physics), teaching students how to measure distances accurately; Creating Descriptions (English), guiding students to create clear descriptions; and Adaptation (PBL), encouraging students to understand the role of understanding the environment around them for adaptation.
For the project, students were assigned to create a guidebook to provide valuable information about the amenities around their neighbourhoods. To make their guidebooks, they explored their local areas and documented various amenities close to their homes. They took photographs, found the distance to these locations, and calculated how long it would take to reach them. Additionally, they gathered essential details such as opening hours, phone numbers, and the functions of these amenities.
December 9 and 10, 2024 were the time for the CREATING phase of the project. Using the Canva application, they designed their guidebooks, transferring their creative ideas to organize the photos and information into an informative and visually appealing format. This activity helped students connect academic learning with real-life applications, fostering a deeper understanding of their neighbourhoods and the world around them. ***
