Secondary 1 – Learning Project: Highlight and Fix
After completing the Creating phase of the guidebook project, Secondary 1 students moved on to the Highlight and Fix phase on December 11 and 12, 2024. This phase was all about refining their work based on feedback from both teachers and peers.
On December 11, students had the opportunity to meet with their teachers personally to receive valuable feedback on their guidebooks. The teachers provided input on two key aspects: content and design. First, the teachers checked that all required elements were present in each student’s guidebook, including the cover, introduction, table of contents, photos and essential information. They also ensured that all relevant local amenities and details were included. Then, the teachers reviewed the design, focusing on whether the layout was clear, the text was readable, and the overall design was engaging as well as visually appealing.
After receiving feedback from their teachers, students gathered additional insights from their classmates. On December 12, students were paired up for peer review. Using a scoring rubric, each student assessed their partner’s guidebook based on set criteria. This peer review process helped students identify areas for improvement and offered a new perspective on their work. With both teacher and peer feedback in hand, students were given time to revise their guidebooks, further enhancing their projects.
Through this process, the students could boost their creativity and academic skills as well as gain a deeper understanding of their neighbourhoods. This knowledge is essential for adapting successfully to the local community and environment, fulfilling the key objective of the project. ***
