Secondary 1 – English: Enhancing Literacy Through Story-Reading Activity
Secondary 1 students recently took part in an engaging story-reading activity. During the lesson, the students were given a short story to study. After reading and discussing the story, they were divided into groups and asked to perform a group reading of the story in front of the class.
The students were challenged to bring the mood and atmosphere of the story to their listeners. To do this successfully, they needed to fully understand the storyline, the characters, and the emotions conveyed in the text. This encouraged them to read carefully and think deeply about how the story should be delivered.
Throughout the activity, the students showed serious effort and enthusiasm as they practiced and presented their readings. The activity not only helped them improve their reading and comprehension skills but also strengthened their confidence and teamwork. Furthermore, short stories play an important role in enhancing students’ literacy skills as they teach students how to present information in a concise and coherent way.
