Secondary 1 – Biology: Natural Phenomena
Observation is one of the significant skills in scientific inquiry. By learning to observe natural phenomena, students know how to gather empirical evidence through the senses or instruments. Observation serves as a fundamental step in the scientific method. It allows scientists to collect data about natural phenomena which can then be used to formulate hypotheses, conduct experiments, and develop theories. Secondary 1 students were asked to observe the natural phenomena in the school area. They observed the material and occurrences of biotic and abiotic components as well as the interaction in the environment. They discovered that the soil provides sufficient minerals for plants and grasses to grow. They also noticed that plants always grow up in the sunlight. For the recording task, they made a table of observations based on the phenomena they found. Students were very excited during the learning process. ***
