The Overview of Visualizing Geomy’s Article Competition
There are several interesting articles that are relevant to students’ life. They need to read the articles and take notes on the important points they’ve found. The information that they have gathered will be visualized in a form of drawing. The competition highlights on the information accuracy, the aesthetic of the drawing as well as the overall design of the visualization.
Teachers prepared some initial activities for students as the preparation before joining the real competition. The preparation was done in Computer Lab where students could access the articles in a form of soft files. Students were asked to read five articles entitled: Why does my pet do that, Keep it down, Everyday Heroism-How You can Save The World in Little Ways, Best Invention of 2023 and Indonesia Advance at Korea Republic’s Expense after Shootout Drama. The articles are presented with colourful pictures and easy-to-read layout. Teacher set 5 minutes for students to finish reading and understand each article. After reading, students chose one article that they like and wrote a draft for their final project, including the main idea of the article, interesting points and the reason behind their decision. Students submitted their draft to the teacher before leaving the room. Through this activity, students learned about data gathering, decision making, logical reasoning and planning.
