Primary 6 – IPC: My Sustainable Product

As the continuing of activity while discussing about Great Pacific Garbage Patch and seven types of plastic, students were also discussing about some sustainable product that might replace the plastic product. First, students recalled the Sustainable Development Goals. Then, they discussed some points such as one way to help the environment which is by using sustainable product.

They continued the discussion in group work to answer three questions. They had to answer the example of sustainable product, what makes a product sustainable and what are the characteristics of sustainable product.

Through the questions, they were able to draw conclusion that a sustainable product is something we use that is good for the environment, people, and the future. They also learnt that sustainable products are made in a way that does not harm nature, can be used for a long time, and does not create too much waste. The students also could mentions four characteristics of sustainable product like eco-friendly material, durable, minimal packaging and non-toxic.

By the definitions and examples, students made a poster as a culmination of their lesson on sustainable products. Each student had brought an example from home, a tangible representation of how they could make a difference. Some students brought wooden spoon, cloth or straw tote bag, stainless-steel bottle, etc. They identified the product based on the characteristics mentioned. These weren’t just posters. they were pledges, promises and commitment to make a difference. It leads students to think what they can contribute from the things they’ve learnt at school.
