Primary 6 – IPC: Getting to Know about Metacognition

In IPC lesson about Metacognition, Primary 6 students explored different types of thinking skills by creating their own games to tests the skills. These tests included verbal reasoning, spatial perception, abstract reasoning, working memory, and verbal memory. Students were given the explanation of the meaning of each skill with simple examples so students can understand how each test helps the brain work in different ways.

They were divided into five groups. Each group was focusing on one type of thinking skill. They worked together to plan and design their own version of the test. Some groups made quiz cards, others built interactive challenges using cardboard, and some designed creative puzzles. Each group wrote clear instructions so other students could easily try their test. After completing the project, students set up their test in Indonesia Room, explaining how to play it.

Students enjoyed trying each other’s challenges, discovering how their brain works differently in each type of task. Through this activity, students learnt that metacognition is about understanding and improving how we think and learn. By making and playing the games, they saw that different thinking skills are useful for different problems, and all are important for lifelong learning. This activity reminded them that when we know how our brain works, we can use it more effectively to solve problems, learn new things, and challenge ourselves to grow. ***
