Primary 5 – Science: What Forces Are There Around Us?

A force is a push or pull on an object. A force occurs when two objects interact when one object does something to another. When the interaction stops, so does the force. The P5 students enthusiastically demonstrated the concept through experiments. They played with coins by spinning them and observed the movement until it came to a complete stop. The students were then asked to identify the nature of the forces acting on the spinning coin and the causes of the coin coming to a complete stop.

The students verified that forces always act in pairs by flying a paper airplane. Through the experiment, they found that gravity acted on the paper airplane as it fell. At the same time, a force called drag acted against gravity. Drag is the friction between moving objects and the air. ***
