Primary 5 – Orientation: Speak Up Against Cyberbullying
During orientation week, P5 students revisited the topic of cyberbullying, thing that they were already familiar with from P4. To refresh their understanding, the session began with short movie talking about real-life examples of cyberbullying. It was followed by an engaging discussion where the students learnt that cyberbullying is any form of bullying which takes place online and causes harm or distress to a person or group of people. They also learnt that there are various forms of cyberbullying, like sending abusive/threatening messages, creating and sharing embarrassing videos of others, choosing to exclude and leave someone out from an online game/chat, posting hateful comments about someone’s content, spreading rumours and doing it all repeatedly.
Building on these insights, students collaborated in groups to create and perform mini dramas that reflected situations they might face in their own lives. They could choose any forms of cyberbullying that they might have experienced, then they developed their stories into playful scripts. Beside writing for their scripts, they also prepared the properties by themselves. Once they have finished with the scripts and properties, they started to rehearse to give their best performances.
The performance day came, they were so excited to give out their best. Each group performed confidently. The entire class enjoyed both performing and watching their peers. After all the performances, the students individually voted for what they felt was the best performances, recognizing creativity and clarity.
This activity helped students understand cyberbullying and how to stand up against it—not in just theory, but through personal expression and teamwork. Through their mini dramas, they learnt how to express feelings, communicate with others, show empathy and learn to support one another. These experiences will help them grow into kind and respectful individuals who know how to treat others well online and in real life. ***
