Primary 4 – Science: Food Chains in Different Habitats
In Science, P4 students learned about food chains and food webs. They discovered that a food chain shows how energy is transferred from one living thing to another in the form of food, while a food web represents multiple interconnected food chains within an ecosystem. They also explored the concept of a habitat, understanding that it’s a place where animals live and that it provides essential resources like food, water, and shelter.
With this knowledge, the students analyzed a food web within a specific habitat, using arrows to trace the flow of energy and identify individual food chains. Working in teams, they discussed their findings and helped each other overcome any challenges. This teamwork allowed them to deepen their understanding through collaboration.
The students were especially excited to identify the strongest predators in the ecosystem by examining the food chains. This hands-on activity not only reinforced their learning about energy flow but also gave them insight into predator-prey relationships in nature. ***
