Primary 4 – Learning Festival: Chemical and Physical Changes
P4 students conducted a Science experiment as a learning celebration. They tried to prove that chemical and physical changes happened in daily life, such as cooking.
The students used instant pudding as the learning media. First, they identified the ingredients and found out that many substances were used in a pack of ready-to-use pudding powder. Second, they cooked the pudding by following the written steps. The students observed the process of boiling and white mist came out which showed water in gaseous form. Next, they poured the liquid pudding to small cups, let it froze and changed to solid liquid.
Through the pudding experiment, students saw both physical and chemical changes. Mixing and cooling were physical changes. Whereas heating the pudding caused a chemical change because the starch changed permanently and made the pudding thick.
This learning celebration activity was not only fun but also helped the students to develop a growth mindset. They proved and realized that Science happens in daily life.
