Primary 3 – Learning Project: From Tourists to Ambassadors

Primary 3 Learning Project (LeaPro) for Semester 2 entitled “From Tourists to Ambassadors: Promoting Solo’s Tourist Destinations” was designed in response to the observation that most of students showed limited knowledge and appreciation for tourist attractions in their own hometown, Solo. It was implemented over a series of structured activities starting from June 3–12, 2025, following the Launch Cycle as LeaPro framework.

In the early phases of the LeaPro, students engaged in meaningful learning experiences by visiting various tourist destinations in Solo, including Taman Balekambang, Loji Gandrung, Pasar Triwindu, Balai Kota, and Pasar Gede, using the Mayapada City Tour Bus. They conducted observations in Balekambang and interviews the sellers in Pasar Triwindu to gather information, which helped them build communication skills and demonstrate positive behaviour in public. In the next phase, they met Ms. Sasa to learn how to become skilful communicators and how to promote local tourism effectively. To better understand the challenge, they conducted a survey among P5 students, then synthesized the findings, and identified the problem: the need for more exposure to Solo’s tourist destinations.

Moving forward, students brainstormed creative ways to promote tourism, with the teacher guiding them through prototype discussions and helping them recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their ideas. This led to the idea of creating a “P3 Mini News Gallery,” where students could share their outing experiences using different media formats such as posters and video. During the Highlight and Fix phase, students practiced their presentations and received constructive feedback from teachers through verbal guidance and exit slips. In the final LAUNCH IT phase, students acted as tourism ambassadors by presenting their projects to Primary 1, 2, and 5 students in a gallery walk format, showcasing various tourist spots in Solo and sharing their learning with others.

Students found the overall activity meaningful and memorable, as it allowed them to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. They reflected on how tourism promotion could be more interactive. Many realized the importance of teamwork, research, and public speaking, especially when presenting to other students. Their reflections showed increased confidence and a deeper appreciation for Solo’s cultural heritage. Overall, the activity successfully combined learning, creativity, and community engagement.

This learning aimed to foster students’ understanding of local culture and tourism while strengthening their communication and collaboration skills through authentic, real-world experiences. Through a series of LeaPro activities, students were encouraged to take ownership of their learning and gained confidence in expressing their ideas. Overall, the project deepened their connection with their local environment and enhanced their ability to communicate effectively. ***
