Primary 3 – Computer: Learning the Basic Computer Skill

P3 students are introduced to basic computer skills during their computer lesson. Before given a chance to practice their computer skill, first of all, they were introduced to the computer lab safety rules. During the meeting teacher shared the dos and don’ts they need to follow while using the laptop in the computer lab. In the following meeting, they were introduced to the features of the laptops as well as their functions. They started to practice how to open and close the laptop properly too. They also were given a chance to turn on and shut down the laptop properly and safely.

Further, on the following meeting, the students were introduced to the icons of some programs are commonly ran in the laptop such Microsoft Words, Excell and PowerPoint. During the meeting, teacher briefly explained the purpose of each different Microsoft program. Next, teacher led the students to at first get to know the Microsoft Word. Step by step, teacher showed them how to get the program started. Then, teacher allowed them to try to get into the program following the steps that the teacher had shown earlier.

Getting into the computer lab, operating the laptop and work on simple word program are new experience for them since this is their first time learning those skills in primary level. This is why they are always eager to learn and practice the skills.

Starting form very basic skill and keep developing their computer literacy and skill consistently, it is expected that they can apply those skills in their real life and support their learning too. Further, having them introduced to this skill in their young age is something beneficial because it is not only building their computer literacy in early stage of learning but also it is preparing them to be able to keep up with the real world challenges in the field of digital and technology. ***
