Primary 2 – Science: Who is stronger?

Primary 2 students explored materials and their properties in Science. The activity began with introducing the concept that every material has unique properties, helping students recall and recognize basic knowledge about different materials. They then tested these materials by comparing the strength of plastic and wooden chopsticks, enhancing their understanding of how specific materials respond under pressure.

Students taped one end of each chopstick to the table and hung a plastic bag from the other end. They added pebbles gradually until each chopstick broke, observing the point at which each material failed. This hands-on experiment allowed students to actively engage in practical testing and develop critical thinking by predicting, testing, and analyzing outcomes.

Throughout the activity, students practiced following instructions for safe handling and thoughtful experimentation, reinforcing their practical skills and safety awareness. By the end, they had deepened their understanding of material properties and nurtured their curiosity, analytical skills, and appreciation for structured scientific exploration. ***
