Primary 2 – Orientation: A Day of Safety, Cooperation, and Meaningful Play

Students began the day with an exciting activity which needed them to listen to the instruction through “Green Light, Red Light” game. Students responded to colourful signals and practiced important safety actions like stopping and using kind words. These playful moments helped them recall safety habits in a fun way.

After the game, students gathered in a circle to talk about their experience. Students shared what they found challenging and what helped them stay safe. These conversations allowed them to explain ideas in their own words and connect their actions to everyday safety.

Later, students discussed different places they play throughout the week, like the classroom, corridor, or library. Students thought about which activities fit best in each space and how to be respectful when playing. They made choices, gave reasons, and learnt to adjust their play depending on the place and situation.

To end the day, students worked in groups to create their own board games. They designed paths and made their own game pieces. They didn’t just play, they also designed, tested and reflected their creations in groups. By engaging in cooperative design, they strengthened social bonds and learned how thoughtful play fosters a respectful classroom culture. As they continue learning, this kind of cooperative play will help them become thoughtful classmates, confident communicators, and caring members of their communities. ***
