Primary 2 – OLP: Zoo-per Adventure

On Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, Primary 2 students participated in an exciting outdoor learning activity called “Zoo-per Adventure” at Solo Safari Zoo. This activity was designed to develop students’ observation skills by exploring animals’ body parts and habitats. It also encouraged communication through retelling past events and promoted a sense of responsibility.

A few days before the activity, students were actively involved in the planning process. Using a booklet, they noted the location, time, and items they needed to bring—such as clipboards, stationery, snacks, and hats. They also listed their responsibilities at the zoo, including observing animals carefully, following the rules, and recording memorable moments at each pit stop.

On the outing day, P2 students observed animals’ body parts and habitats attentively, listened to the tour guide’s explanations, and read information boards. Some students showed great curiosity by asking thoughtful questions. As part of their recording task, they wrote down their observations and memorable experiences in their booklets.

A highlight of the visit was the animal education session, where students learned more about elephants through direct interaction with a zookeeper. They discovered fascinating facts, such as how elephants use their trunks to pick up objects and how their feet can sense earthquakes. This hands-on experience allowed students to connect their classroom learning with the real world.

At the end of the activity, students were reminded to complete their home-link task at home: retelling their experience at Solo Safari Zoo to their parents. This task aimed to improve students’ communication skills in English, especially in recounting events in sequence. Parental support at home played an important role in developing this skill.

“Zoo-per Adventure” also fostered a sense of responsibility among students. From the planning stage to recording their experiences, students were encouraged to take charge of their own learning. They followed rules, helped keep the environment clean, and learned that rules are not just written instructions, but important guidelines that help activities run smoothly.

Overall, “Zoo-per Adventure” provided students with valuable experiences in gathering and recording information. It sparked their curiosity, strengthened their love for learning, and encouraged them to apply their knowledge in real-life situations. ***
