Primary 2 – Maths: Bring Maths to Life

Primary 2 students have been actively exploring the real-world applications of Maths through their recent chapter on Length, Mass, and Capacity. They learnt how to measure length using a centimeter ruler and practiced drawing accurate lines, as well as measuring classroom items like books and pencil cases. In Mass, students worked in groups to build simple balances using clothes hangers and used blocks as non-standard units to compare the weight of various stationery. For Capacity, they measured how many litres different containers could hold, such as bottles and pails.

These hands-on activities helped students recall measurement tools, apply concepts, and think strategically while working in groups. The activities also helped students see how Maths connects to everyday life, like helping in the kitchen, organizing school bags, watering plants, or pouring the correct dosage of medicine. Through these experiences, students discovered that math isn’t just in the classroom but all around them. ***
