Primary 2 – BMC Thinking and Sharing: The Challenge Card in BMC Journey
Following their heartfelt virtual visits to community homes, our Primary 2 students entered the next phase of their BMC journey: the Challenge Card. Over two focused days, they moved from feeling empathy to thinking critically, tackling real problems about sharing and fairness with both their heads and their hearts.
Students began by organizing everything they had learnt. They created “Trees of Need,” sorting and ranking what each home required most: from food and comfort to toys and hygiene. They then faced practical dilemmas: How do you share 3 boxes of milk with many children? What if there are only 2 toys, but many kids want to play? Through these scenarios, they explored the core ideas of “share equally” and “share fairly,” discovering that kindness sometimes means giving everyone the same, and sometimes it means giving based on what someone truly needs.
This stage required students to do more than remember; they had to analyze, decide, and reason. They weighed options, considered different perspectives, and justified their choices. This kind of thinking helped them understand that solving real-world problems isn’t just about counting; it’s about thoughtful judgment and caring decision-making.
The Challenge Card was where empathy met action. Our young learners began to see themselves not just as observers, but as problem-solvers who could think through challenges and make a difference. They learned that true helping requires both a warm heart and a thoughtful mind, setting the stage for the meaningful solution to come. ***
