Primary 2 – BMC – Building Solutions: The Modelling Stage of BMC Journey
Following their exploration of community needs, our Primary 2 students entered the Modelling Stage of their BMC journey. This phase challenged them to move from understanding problems to designing thoughtful solutions. Over two days, they learnt to structure their thinking, make reasoned choices, and turn their caring ideas into clear, visual plans.
Students began by selecting one community home they wanted to help. Then, using thinking tools like Problem-Solving Boards and “Thinking Bubbles,” they learnt to organize their ideas. These tools guided them to ask important questions: What is the real problem? What do we already know? Who is involved? What are our options? Students referred back to their earlier notes and discussions, connecting their empathy to actionable plans.
Armed with these frameworks, each student began drafting their own solution strategy. They considered different options, weighed possible outcomes, and selected what they believed was the best approach, “explaining not just “What” they would do, but “Why”. This process required them to think ahead, anticipate challenges, and justify their decisions in a logical and compassionate way.
In the final step, students brought their plans to life by creating visual models. Using various materials, they constructed representations of their proposed support, whether it was a system for sharing resources, a new way to organize donations, or a creative activity for the residents. This hands-on creation made their abstract thinking tangible, reinforcing the lesson that thoughtful planning is the bridge between a caring heart and meaningful action.
