Primary 1 – Learning Project: Understanding the Problem Phase

Previously, Primary 1 students conducted interview and story telling to gather data related to emotions. To complete the data, they also watched social experiment video about how kids dealt with their own emotion. Based on the information they got from the activities; on Friday, December 6th, 2024, the students were guided to understand the problem might happen related to emotions.

Understanding the problem in learning project gave big picture to the students about the problem happened around them. The activities that they did in interview, story telling and watching social experiment video led them to formulate the problem related to emotions. Through class discussion, teacher guided students to share what problem happened around them. In the end of the session, it could be concluded that “Not all people know and be aware with their own emotion” as the problem. When somebody did not know about their own feeling they might react improperly so the reaction could disturb themselves and even others.

Understanding the problem phase gave stimulation to students to think structurally. They were challenged to think inductively, from the particular parts to be generalized. This skill could arise their critical thinking in solving the problem. Understanding the problem would lead them to find effective solution to the problem. in this case, Primary 1 students were directed to find solution for the problem of “Not all people know and be aware with their own emotion.”

Understanding the problem of emotions directed students to be more aware to their own emotion. Good understanding of the problem will help them to have good self regulation of emotions. The next phase, students would brainstorm ideas to make themselves and people around them know and be aware with emotions. In the end, being aware to the emotions would help students to have better intrapersonal and interpersonal skill. ***
