Primary 1 – IPC Entry Point: Dancing Spark with Plasma Lamp

In the IPC Learning activity, Primary 1 students took part in the Entry Point phase, an important step in the learning process designed to trigger students’ curiosity, excitement, and engagement in the beginning of the learning process.

During this phase, students were explored electricity and shared their opinions on how it looked. Students were given the chance to experience the electricity using plasma lamp. By using the Plasma Lamp, the students could directly observe an example of electricity, which was the sparks inside it. This activity took place in the classrooms, guided by the teachers, creating a supportive environment for students to learn electricity.

In this phase, students didn’t just try the experiment using plasma lamp; they also learned about what the definition of electricity, the examples, and the process of producing electricity. They brainstormed a variety of ideas about how electricity looks like and shared their ideas. This process aimed to train students to think creatively and using their imagination to find the solutions.

Furthermore, the Entry Point phase helps students to activate the schemata and to connect with their prior knowledge. By going through this stage, they are encouraged to understand the importance of learning about electricity especially in the daily basis.

This thoughtful process does not only help them understand about electricity but also prepares them to grasp its importance, learn how to save it, and recognize its potential dangers for the future.
