Primary 1 – English: Making a photo frame
In the unit on following instructions, Primary 1 students tackled the challenge of creating their own photo frames by following a set of steps. First, they engaged with the basics, reading and identifying “bossy” verbs and nouns in each step of the instructions. This foundational phase helped them recognize essential actions, like “cut” and “glue,” for assembling the frame.
The next day, students took on the task independently, applying what they’d learned. As they followed each step in order, they demonstrated an understanding of the instructions’ sequence, recalling each action needed to bring their frame to life.
With the basics covered, they were then encouraged to add their own decorative touches, making each frame unique. Here, students had to think strategically, selecting materials and colors to create a design that felt personal and creative while staying within the framework of the instructions.
Finally, students displayed their completed frames, proudly sharing their creations with peers. They reflected on the process, explaining how each step contributed to their final product and discussing the choices they made along the way. This reflection demonstrated a deeper understanding of following directions and allowed them to evaluate their work.
Excitement filled the room as students showed off their adorable frames. Bravo to Primary 1 for combining creativity with careful instruction-following! ***
