Nursery – Science: Exploring Textures

Nursery – Science: Exploring Textures

Nursery students learn to recognise the textures of various vegetables through an engaging, hands-on activity. The lesson begins by introducing the journey of vegetables—from being planted and harvested, to being sold in the supermarket, and finally purchased and consumed. Students then take part in pretend play by acting as shoppers, buying vegetables and exploring their textures, such as rough and smooth.

Learning through pretend play promotes a fun and meaningful learning experience. This practical activity provides students with real-life experiences, supports the development of their sensory (tactile) awareness, and stimulates their curiosity. As a further impact, students are expected to develop a greater sense of curiosity in exploring their environment and to learn to respect food, especially vegetables, by understanding the long journey they take before reaching our plates.
