Nursery – Fine Motor: Threading beads
Nursery students have a new learning experience, to improve their fine motor skill. They have experiences to thread straws, and it was time for them to get another challenge with a higher level of difficulties. They practiced threading using other object which was beads. Students were provided with beads and pipe cleaner (as the thread). At first, teachers show them the correct way on how to hold the bead and pipe cleaner, and how to insert the pipe cleaner into the bead. Then, they were encouraged to do it independently.
Threading beads looks simple, yet it is advantageous for improving students’ skills. Not only enhancing their fine motor skills, threading beads also helps students to build focus and concentration as they have to carefully passes the beads through the thread (pipe cleaner). Students also acquire their personal goal in term of being resilient, as they keep making an effort and not easily gave up even though it seemed difficult to thread the beads. It also fosters students’ self-esteem for they feel a great sense of achievement when they could finally accomplished it.
In the future, fine motor exercises are essential to support students in doing task like writing, drawing and handling small objects. It also refines their ability to manipulate objects with precision and control.
