Early Year 2 – Maths: Cooking Pannenkoeken
EY2 students had a fun chance to pretend they were taking a trip around the world. One of the exciting places they visited was the Netherlands, where they learned about its famous landmarks, iconic symbols, a popular celebration, and a traditional Dutch dish called Pannenkoeken (Dutch pancakes). They discovered how Pannenkoeken differ from regular pancakes in terms of ingredients and size.
To share what they had learned, the students were invited to cook Pannenkoeken with their classmates and teachers. They started by measuring and mixing ingredients like flour, eggs, milk, salt, and sugar, which connected to their Maths lesson. As they cooked, they followed the teacher’s instructions, which helped improve their listening skills.
Learning about Dutch culture encouraged the students to reflect on the similarities and differences between their own culture and others. Last but not least, making Pannenkoeken was more than just cooking, as it offered a fun opportunity for the students to learn, think critically, and appreciate the diversity of cultures in our global community. ***
