Early Year 2 – Learning Project: Papier Mâché Mask (Day 1)
On the first day of the EY2 learning project Papier Mâché Mask, students kicked off with an engaging “Treasure Hunt for Trash” around the classroom and playground. Armed with a checklist, they explored different types of waste, using their senses of touch and smell. Afterward, students participated in a “Trash Relay Race,” where they worked in teams to sort waste into recycling, compost, or trash bins.
The activity sparked meaningful conversations as students shared what surprised them and discussed the challenges of sorting items correctly. The teacher also prompted reflection on why certain items belong in specific bins, encouraging students to think about the impact of waste on the environment.
To deepen understanding, students watched videos explaining the difference between organic and inorganic waste, followed by a brainstorming session on how we can reduce waste in our community. The activity set the stage for an insightful and hands-on exploration of environmental responsibility. ***
