Early Year 2 – Entry Point: Weather Wonders

EY2 students started learning the new theme of Weather Wonders from last Monday. They were invited to follow the entry point by recalling the experience of playing in the rain that they had experienced in EY1 during an outing at BPBD. The entry point was an interesting discussion starter, as many students had deeper knowledge at this time. Students not only shared their opinions on what weather they knew and what its characteristics were, but they could also give opinions on the types of activities or clothing that needed to be used in certain weather. Although they have learned this theme in EY1, this time the knowledge they will receive will be more Students will learn through various activities such as observations, experiments, and even discussions. On that time, in a discussion about rainy weather, they found that they liked discussing storms, tornadoes and floods. Some students could even explain about tornadoes using their own sentences. There were also students who asked if there had ever been a tornado in this city. Discussion is an interesting and effective activity in getting students to think and learn to express opinions relevant to the theme being discussed. Children at this age need frequent stimulus for discussion so that they can link simple information into a meaningful understanding.
