Early Year 2 – English: A Tasty Trip Around the World
The EY2 children continued their global adventure with a joyful role-play activity, travelling from one country to another using their imagination. Before setting off, they prepared mini passports and boarded their pretend aeroplane with excitement. Their journey took them to six destinations — Indonesia, Japan, Spain, Italy, the United States, and Mexico. At each stop, they queued politely to receive an immigration stamp from the teacher, learning simple routines of travel in a playful and age-appropriate way.
In every country, the children tasted a fruit commonly enjoyed by people there: banana from Indonesia, pear from Japan, orange from Spain, grapes from Italy, apple from the USA, and avocado from Mexico. This sensory experience helped them connect flavour with place, expanding their understanding of diversity in a very concrete and enjoyable manner. Afterwards, they chose their favourite fruit, created a drawing to represent it, and practised simple sentences such as, “I like banana from Indonesia because it is sweet.”
Activities like this help children build early global awareness, develop language skills, and learn to appreciate differences through positive experiences. By tasting, imagining, and expressing their thoughts, they gain confidence and curiosity — valuable foundations for becoming open-minded learners in an increasingly connected world. ***
