Early Year 2 – Arts: A Fish with a Wish

The EY2 students enjoyed listening to the story The Fish Who Could Wish by John Bush, about a magical fish who could wish for anything, and every wish came true. The tale sparked their imagination and excitement, encouraging them to think about their own dreams and hopes.

The following day, they created colourful fish artworks inspired by the story. Inside each fish, they drew three wishes for themselves as they begin their journey in EY2, moving up from EY1. For example, a child who wished to make a new friend drew a picture of a friend, while another who wished to learn to write words drew a pencil. Once finished, they decorated their fish with sparkling glitter to make their artwork shine.

This activity promotes creativity, self-expression, and goal-setting. It encourages children to reflect on their personal hopes, turning abstract wishes into tangible images. By sharing their wishes with peers, they build communication and social skills, while decorating their artwork enhances fine motor control. Such activities help children connect their learning to personal growth, fostering motivation and a positive attitude towards new challenges. ***
