Early Year 1 – Science: Through the Raindrops!
As part of our ongoing weather exploration theme, students participated in a hands-on activity designed to help them understand what rain feels like in a safe and enjoyable way. Prior to the session, parents were informed to prepare raincoats for their children, ensuring students could fully engage in the experience while staying comfortable and protected.
Teachers guided students to put on their raincoats before introducing a gentle spray of water to simulate rainfall. This activity allowed children to observe how water falls, moves, and feels on different surfaces, supporting sensory learning and strengthening their awareness of everyday weather conditions.
A specially arranged “rain path” was created for the students to walk through. This path included stages of soft drizzle, steady rain, and slightly heavier rain. As students moved through each section, they were encouraged to describe what they felt and noticed, helping them build vocabulary and practice expressing observations.
This experience not only made learning fun and memorable but also taught students the importance of preparing for different kinds of weather. By wearing raincoats and walking confidently through simulated rain, students gained a practical understanding of how to stay safe and comfortable during real rainy days. The activity supported their confidence, independence, and curiosity about the natural world. ***
