Early Year 1 – Practical life: Learning to be Responsible
EY1 students had such a wonderful time learning about responsibility. They discovered that being responsible means taking care of themselves, their friends, and the spaces around them. The students were so excited to share their ideas about what they could do when they see small problems, such as a dirty floor, a window that needs cleaning, or a water bottle leaking on the table. Their ideas were creative and thoughtful, showing that they are becoming more aware of what is happening around them.
Then came the best part; turning those ideas into action! The students practiced sweeping, wiping, and tidying up the classroom together. They worked as a team, laughed along the way, and took great pride in making their classroom a clean and comfortable place for everyone. They discovered that even small actions can make a big difference and had so much fun doing it.
This simple lesson had a big impact on the students. It encouraged them to take initiative, solve problems independently, and work together as a team. These moments are helping them build confidence, independence, and a strong sense of community. Hopefully, the students will carry this sense of responsibility beyond the classroom, noticing what needs to be done, taking action without being asked, and showing care for the people and places around them wherever they go. ***
