Early Year 1 – Learning Project: Dazzling Desert (Day 5)
The EY1 students were filled with excitement as they celebrated the final day of their “Dazzling Desert” project with a Mini Desert Exhibition. In their classroom, students proudly presented their desert dioramas, showcasing the knowledge and creativity they had applied throughout the project.
The exhibition was a lively event, with visitors including EY2 students, the principal, school leaders, teachers, and the supporting team. EY1 students enthusiastically welcomed their guests and shared insights about their dioramas, explaining the elements they had included and the desert concepts they had learned. Even quieter students, who are often shy during class activities, stepped out of their comfort zones to confidently explain their work to visitors, demonstrating growth in both confidence and communication skills.
This learning project utilized a design thinking framework, allowing students to engage in a hands-on, iterative process of creating their dioramas. Throughout the project, they learned to think critically, make informed decisions, and solve problems while applying their understanding of the desert environment. The process encouraged them to express their ideas visually and verbally, fostering creativity and improving their ability to organize and share their thoughts.
By blending creativity with critical thinking and collaboration, this project provided EY1 students with a meaningful learning experience. The skills they developed—such as problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication—will serve as valuable tools as they encounter increasingly complex challenges in their educational journey. The “Dazzling Desert” project was not just a celebration of learning, but a stepping stone toward their growth as confident, thoughtful, and expressive learners. ***
