Early Year 1 – Learning Project: Dazzling Desert (Day 1)

On the first day of our “Dazzling Desert” project, EY1 students began exploring the unique desert environment through the “Look, Listen, Learn” phase. They watched a video that introduced deserts as dry places with very little rain and extreme conditions. The video featured fascinating desert animals like camels, which store water in their humps, and meerkats, who dig burrows for shelter. Students also learned about desert plants, such as cacti, which have spines to protect them and conserve water.

To help students connect with the desert, they touched sand and rocks as examples of desert materials, sharing their thoughts on the textures and how they felt. The lesson also included a look at the Bedouin people and how they adapt to desert life.

To wrap up, students began creating their own desert dioramas, working in small groups to build scenes with animals, plants, and other desert features. This hands-on activity kicked off an exciting exploration of desert life! ***
