Early Year 1 – Entry Point: Polar Adventure

The EY1 students kicked off the Animal Rescuers unit with a fun and engaging role-play as polar explorers. They arrived at school dressed in winter gear—jackets, scarves, gloves, beanies, and more—ready to “experience” the Arctic environment. During the activity, they were introduced to animals native to the Arctic, such as polar bears, penguins, walruses, and seals. The students also participated in a group activity where they pretended to be Inuit people, working together to build an igloo.

This hands-on experience served as an introduction to the theme they will explore in the coming lessons. In addition to building their prior knowledge, the activity helped develop the students’ communication and teamwork skills. ***
