Baby Class – Sensory Activity: Sticky, Foamy Texture

Baby Tweet had a chance to be introduced to the texture of sticky wet flour and foamy water. They explored the wet flour provided by teachers and engaged to grab the colourful straws inside. When they were satisfied to do the exploration, they could put the straws into the foamy water.

Wet flour was chosen as it was safe and edible media to be explored. While the plastic straws were parts of the items to be taken as it was very easy for the baby to grip. Moreover, as it was colourful, it could grab the babies’ attention. In addition, the foamy water play grew wellbeing nature as a baby, then they would be more relax.

The messy play with the dough, straws and foamy water were designed to facilitate babies’ sensory competence and enhanced their fine motor skill. The babies needed to practice using their fingers in exploring and holding something. They had to learn to manage the strength of their fingers in holding something and releasing it.

Furthermore, when the babies discovered different textures, they worked on their focus and attention, and for that reason they would be more calming. It would also improve their language skill, moreover when the assistance validated their feeling after touching the texture. Playing with various texture developed babies’ cognitive skill since they learned further understanding about the world around them. ***
