Secondary 3 – Visual Arts: Human Form & Movement

Secondary 3 students learnt about Human Form & Movement. The students were identifying some important elements in sketching the human form, such as anatomy and gesture drawing based on proportion of the drawing itself. First, students and teacher were having discussion on the basic techniques in sketching human’s part which can be started by using shapes to form the human’s anatomy, like head, torso, arms or legs. Teacher also gave short tutorial through the sketch given in the whiteboard. Next, students were exploring another references of sketching the human form through internet. As a practise, students were sketching one human figure in form of sketch and fix drawing. They are allowed to choose the characters they like in full body. They did it in A3 folded paper and make the sketch and fix drawing altogether.

The students experienced their first time to draw human form through sketching and fix drawing. The drawing process through sketching help the students to start with their ideas on making decision of the characters’ anatomy and also gestures. Somehow, the fix drawing was the continuation of the sketching process where they can start drawing on the characters they want. This step by step process gave the students chance to improve their agility in drawing human properly beside receiving some feedback from others related to their sketch. Drawing human was challenging yet it can be solved by students through the process of revising, detailing and helping each others through valuable feedback. ***
