
Secondary 3 – Visual Arts: Arts & Activism
Secondary 3 students were introduced to a theme, Arts and Activism. It tells about how people express their feelings, opinion, disappointment or inspiration to certain situation through artworks. The students were asked to pick one topic of the issues happened in Indonesia, such as politics, economy, social, etc. They also given freedom to choose the artworks that they can use to represent their ideas of the issues. It can be in form of painting, 3D installation, poster, comic, drawing in black wall or craft.
At first, students discussed about the topic with the teacher. Students were given examples of some issues happened in the world and how artists made their campaign into some artworks. They also learnt about how to deliver the message of the issues through words and pictures inside the artworks. Next, students browsed the internet to find references about some issues happened in Indonesia and example of the artwork that they have chosen. Then, they made the draft of their ideas in a piece of paper which consist of information of the issue and the things needed to make the artwork.
From this learning activities, the students learnt to expand ideas and expression through research and the artworks choices. They were given freedom to explore and made wise decision of which artwork that they will make. Being creative in delivering the message and using the tools they chose became a good opportunity for them to broaden their knowledge and skills not just today but also in the future.
