Secondary 3 – Outdoor Learning Program: Zero Hunger & No Poverty
On September 24, 2024, Secondary 3 students took part in an enriching Outdoor Learning Program (OLP) centered on the themes of “Zero Hunger & No Poverty.” The program was held at Gondosuli Field, where students observed and interviewed local farmers about food production, planting, and harvesting techniques. They had the unique opportunity to interact directly with the farmers, even helping to harvest carrots, gaining valuable hands-on experience in agricultural life.
After their fieldwork, the students visited SDN 02 Gondosuli, where they shared insights on food production and healthy eating habits with the elementary students. The visit also included collaborative learning activities and simple games, fostering meaningful connections between the two groups.
The final part of their excursion took place at Tawangmangu Tourism Market. Here, the students put their learning into practice by engaging in thoughtful conversations with local market traders, exploring how food travels from farmers to consumers, and the importance of sustainable food systems.
This OLP not only helped students deepen their understanding of global issues like hunger and poverty, but also strengthened their independence, communication skills, and critical thinking. The students found the experience both educational and enjoyable, and they are excited for future outings that offer similar opportunities for real-world learning. ***
