Secondary 3 – Maths: Wrap It Up

After learning the concepts of volume and total surface area of prisms, Secondary 3 students had the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a fun and engaging way. They participated in a gift exchange, where each student randomly picked another student’s name and kept it a secret. Their task was to create a DIY gift box and produce a video demonstrating their understanding of prism nets, calculating the dimensions for each shape.

During the presentation, students explained their calculations for the volume and total surface area of the gift box they had made. After presenting, they revealed the name of the classmate receiving the gift, who then answered a question about how much wrapping paper would be needed based on the box’s dimensions. If answered correctly, the student received the gift. This activity not only reinforced the students’ understanding of volume and surface area but also helped them develop their communication and creative problem-solving skills. ***
