Secondary 3 – English: Reading Comprehension through Interactive Activity
Secondary 3 students had a reading activity aimed at enhancing their reading comprehension skills. The activity began with a listening exercise where students were provided with a story that had several missing words.
As they listened carefully, they filled in the gaps, identifying the correct words to complete the story. Once the missing words were filled in, students read the completed story, followed by a class discussion led by the teacher. This discussion focused on checking the students’ understanding and ensuring they grasped the story’s key points. The students were then grouped to discuss the story in more detail and create a picture story based on the events.
This approach encouraged students to pay close attention to every detail in the story, helping them develop a more thorough understanding of the text. Providing opportunities like this is very beneficial to familiarise student having the courage to share what they have in mind. This in line with school’s purpose in constructing structured and critical thinking habit for students.
