Secondary 2 – Maths: Geometry and Measure Practical Test

Secondary 2 students have just completed their learning on geometry, including the hierarchy of quadrilaterals, the area of parallelograms, exterior angles and trapezia and the circumference of a circle.

After engaging in various activities to explore these concepts, such as identifying relationships between different quadrilaterals, deriving the formulas for parallelograms and trapezia, knowing the relation between angles and understanding the value of π to measure a circle; they participated in a practical assessment.

For this assessment, teacher asked students to design a mini city using quadrilaterals and circles. They had to measure and record the dimensions of each shape and add creative elements to their designs. Students then calculated the area of each shape and the circumference of each circle. Finally, they presented their mini cities in front of their classmates, who provided feedback and scored their work.

Teacher also reviewed and scored each project. Through this hands-on activity, students not only applied geometric formulas in a practical context but also developed creativity, presentation skills and experience in peer assessment. ***
