Secondary 2 – English: Express Yourself
Secondary 2 students tackled a common challenge in English: confusing words. These are words that may look or sound similar but have very different meanings — and often cause mistakes in both writing and speaking.
To address this, students were introduced to frequently misused words. They explored the definitions and distinctions between each pair or group of words. Their understanding was then checked through practice activities such as revising incorrect word usage in sentences and completing sentences with the correct words.
After these foundational tasks, students moved on to a higher-level activity: creating an explanation map. In this activity, they demonstrated their understanding by defining the words and using them correctly in sentences. They also designed quizzes on the confusing words for students in other levels. All tasks were completed using digital technology.
The activity encouraged students to use the correct words when expressing their ideas. By organizing information visually and engaging in peer learning across grades, students strengthened their understanding of word usage. The integration of digital tools also helped enhance both their language proficiency and digital literacy. ***
