Secondary 2 – English: Express Yourself
In English, Secondary 2 students learned to express themselves by sharing their personal stories. They started the lesson with a listening activity where students listened to two diaries: ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ and ‘Samuel Pepy’s Diary’. From the diaries, they learned how the people shared their feelings and experiences in a form of writing. The students also learned the language style used in expressing personal stories. They also developed their ability to understand and share the feelings of others.
As the task, students were asked to share their personal stories and the lessons they have learned from them. First, they created the draft in their notebooks. Then, they were asked to present it in front of the audience.
The activities have encouraged the students to develop their active listening skills and express themselves verbally. The presentation helped them enhance their communication skills as they improved fluency and built confidence. Additionally, it has promoted empathy and built social connections as personal stories helped them connect each other on a deeper level, building social bonds and a sense of community. ***
