Secondary 2 – English: Discussions
Secondary 2 students began a new chapter on leaflets and reports with an engaging group discussion activity. To introduce the topic, students were given two examples of leaflets to analyze in groups. The discussion focused on the main features, layout, and language style used in leaflets. The aim of this discussion was to encourage active participation and allow students to share their perspectives and insights with one another. From this exercise, students discovered that leaflets have a distinct layout structure and use concise, direct language to communicate messages effectively.
After gaining an understanding through discussion, students were assigned a task to create their own leaflet on the theme “Top 3 Dangers of the Internet for Teenagers.” This topic was chosen because it is relevant to their lives as teenagers who are actively engaged in the digital world. With a topic that resonates with their daily experiences, students were motivated to think critically about potential risks they may encounter online.
This activity not only deepened students’ understanding of leaflet structure and language but also helped them develop critical thinking skills to identify important digital issues and writing skills to present information in a clear and impactful way. By the end of the lesson, students could produce informative and visually engaging leaflets, meeting the goal of effective communication. ***
