Secondary 2 – Biology: Food Test Experiment

Today, Secondary 2 students did an experiment about testing the nutrients contained in several foods. They conducted the experiment to prove that the rice contains carbohydrates, the tempeh contains protein, and the biscuits contain sugar.

They used reagents as the liquid to prove the nutrients contained in those foods. Biuret is for testing the protein, Benedict is for testing the sugar, and Lugol is for testing the carbohydrates. The result of this experiment is discoloration in the foods tested, the rice became black, the biscuit became yellow, and the tempeh became light blue. Students enjoyed the activity very much. ***
