Secondary 1 – Visual Arts: Endangered Animals

Secondary 1 students are currently delving into Realism drawing with a focus on the theme of Endangered Animals. This project is a continuation of their previous group activity, where they created campaign posters about endangered animals in Indonesia, such as the Sumatran tiger, the Javan rhinoceros, and the orangutan.

As part of the process, students sketched detailed, realistic portraits of these animals and colored them using colored pencils to bring their illustrations to life. In addition to the artwork, they added key facts about the animals and included compelling campaign slogans aimed at raising awareness and encouraging action to prevent their extinction.

Following the completion of their posters, each group had the opportunity to present their work to the class. During the presentations, students not only showcased their artistic skills but also demonstrated their understanding of the animals’ endangered status by discussing their research. A lively class discussion followed, where other students were encouraged to ask thoughtful questions and engage with the material presented.

Throughout the project, each group displayed remarkable effort and creativity, with their presentations reflecting both their hard work and passion for the cause. This activity not only helped them refine their artistic abilities but also deepened their awareness of environmental conservation and advocacy. The project fostered collaboration, critical thinking, and public speaking skills, making it a truly enriching and meaningful experience for all involved. ***
