Secondary 1 – Maths: Data Handling
After learning about data handling, Secondary 1 students were asked to review their survey results from the CGP lesson. The survey theme was “Is school the best place to learn?” Using the Maths concepts they had studied, students organised and handled their survey data, created visual representations such as bar graphs or pie charts, and interpreted the results using the average system: mean, median, mode and range. Then, they analysed the data, made conclusions and shared personal suggestions based on their findings.
During their presentations, students explained what type of data they worked on and reflected on how the results might change if the number of samples were different. They also discussed how sample size could influence the reliability of the results and which average method they used to interpret their data.
By handling the data using mathematical concepts, they learned how to collect, organize and analyse information systematically, recognize patterns and make evidence-based conclusions. Through the presentation, Secondary 1 students developed confidence in communicating mathematical ideas clearly and expressing opinions supported by data. ***
